01 · Core summary

Core summary

Maserati’s four-seat coupe offers two very different ways to travel: Nettuno V6 character or Folgore electric propulsion. Model year matters as much as the trim badge.

The second-generation GranTurismo is a four-seat coupe, not Maserati's two-seat mid-engined supercar. This profile separates the original second-generation cars from the 2027 update announced in June 2026. The gallery illustrates earlier second-generation examples, not the revised front end.

Cariary's buying view is that passenger needs and energy access should decide the shortlist first. A Folgore and a V6 can satisfy a similar touring brief while requiring very different routines between journeys.

02 · History & generations

History & generations

The new generation followed the long-running original GranTurismo and returned the name to the market in 2023. The previous car's V8 must not be carried over into a description of the new Nettuno V6.

The 2027 update raises Trofeo output and revises styling and controls. When comparing used and new examples, write down the model year, original market and full derivative rather than assuming that the current configurator describes an older car.

03 · Body, platform & design

Body, platform & design

The long bonnet and rearward cabin communicate a traditional grand-tourer shape. Four seats distinguish its mission from a compact two-seat sports car, but the doors and low roof still demand a practical access test.

The blue and white cars in the gallery show the earlier second-generation nose; the grey car adds a rear view. They are not substitutes for photographs of a seller's actual vehicle, especially across the 2027 styling change.

04 · Engine & drivetrain

Engine & drivetrain

Maserati's June 2026 US announcement quotes 483 hp for the entry V6 and 582 hp for the updated Trofeo, replacing the earlier Trofeo's 542-hp US rating. The separate Folgore uses three electric motors and an 800-volt architecture.

These are distinct powertrains, not software levels of one engine. Keep US horsepower separate from CV or PS figures on European pages. A 590-CV label does not mean a different 590-US-hp engine.

05 · Trim differences

Trim differences

The V6 suits buyers who want conventional refuelling and combustion-engine character. Trofeo deserves consideration when its extra performance and chassis specification are genuinely wanted, rather than simply because it tops the petrol range.

Folgore should be compared as an EV purchase. Its charging arrangements and battery condition matter more than whether its acceleration headline beats the petrol car. Confirm wheel, seat and assistance options individually on used examples.

06 · Interior & seating

Interior & seating

Try the rear seats with the front seat set for the actual driver. A four-seat label is useful, but it cannot tell a family whether adults will enjoy a long motorway journey in the back.

The 2027 Trofeo page identifies a revised steering wheel. Do not expect that control layout in an earlier example. During a viewing, operate navigation, climate and parking functions rather than judging the cabin only from its leather colour.

07 · Efficiency & range

Efficiency & range

A V6 fuel bill and Folgore charging bill need separate calculations. Use your own annual distance, local energy prices and likely charging mix. Public rapid charging and home charging can produce quite different ownership costs.

For touring in the EV, plan charging stops on the routes you actually use. A peak charging rating is not an average over an entire stop, and cold conditions or a high starting state of charge can change the result.

08 · Safety & equipment

Safety & equipment

Check the exact assistance package and demonstrate its warnings and parking views. A large coupe's camera image is useful, but does not remove the need to check corners, pedestrians and the space required by its doors.

For a used car, obtain a specialist inspection covering tyres, brakes, underbody condition and service records. Folgore buyers should also request battery and charging records rather than treating low mileage alone as proof of condition.

09 · Strengths

Strengths

The GranTurismo offers a distinctive combination of elegant coupe proportions and a touring-focused cabin. Its appeal is strongest when the owner actually wants to cover distance rather than merely collect a performance statistic.

Having both V6 and electric choices broadens that appeal. It allows the design to remain central while buyers choose the energy system that fits their home and travel pattern.

Cariary perspective
Choose the GranTurismo for its grand-touring role before choosing its power figure. The new 582-hp Trofeo is not the specification of every earlier Trofeo on sale.
10 · Considerations

Considerations

Rear access, luggage shape and parking space should be checked before committing to the coupe format. A beautiful roofline does not solve a recurring need to carry bulky equipment or passengers with limited mobility.

Model-year changes also affect value comparisons. An older Trofeo may still be desirable, but its price should be assessed against its actual specification and condition, not a newer car's power claim.

11 · Recommended use

Recommended use

Consider the entry V6 for regular long trips where refuelling flexibility matters. Consider Folgore when reliable charging is already part of everyday life. Choose Trofeo because you value its particular performance package, not because the standard car seems inadequate on paper.

For frequent four-adult travel, test the rear accommodation against a four-door alternative before deciding that the coupe is the right compromise.

12 · Rivals & related

Rivals & related

The Bentley Continental GT is a natural luxury-touring comparison, although its price and powertrain generation need careful matching. A Porsche 911 offers a more compact sports-car interpretation rather than identical rear-seat usefulness.

Within Maserati, GranCabrio adds open-air travel with roof-related compromises. MCPURA changes the mission to a two-seat mid-engined car and should not be treated as merely another GranTurismo trim.

13 · FAQ

Are the gallery cars 2027 models? No; they illustrate the earlier second-generation design.

Is Folgore a hybrid? No. It is the battery-electric derivative.

What makes the Maserati GranTurismo different?
