Maserati GranCabrio

Two-door four-seat soft-top convertible

01 · Core summary

Core summary

The GranCabrio makes the four-seat grand tour an open-air experience. Roof practicality and the distinction between earlier Trofeo and updated models are central to the buying decision.

The second-generation GranCabrio combines four seats with a folding fabric roof. It shares a touring role with GranTurismo but asks the buyer to value open-air driving enough to accept convertible packaging. The photographed Trofeo examples are earlier second-generation cars.

This is a specification-based buying guide, not a personal road test. Its central recommendation is simple: compare the roof-up and roof-down experience with your actual passengers and luggage before selecting a powertrain.

02 · History & generations

History & generations

The current GranCabrio arrived in 2024. It is distinct from the older V8 convertible that carried the same name. The second-generation Trofeo launched with a Nettuno V6, while Folgore brought a separate electric choice.

The June 2026 announcement introduced further range changes for the 2027 update. An early registration and a current online brochure can therefore describe different power and equipment specifications despite sharing the same model name.

03 · Body, platform & design

Body, platform & design

The soft top preserves the open-car character without using a folding metal roof. Look at the rear deck and cabin with the roof lowered: the visual appeal is obvious, but touring luggage must coexist with the folding mechanism.

Our front, rear and side photographs show earlier Trofeo examples. They establish the open body format, not the appearance of the later update or the electric Folgore's particular detailing.

04 · Engine & drivetrain

Engine & drivetrain

The original second-generation Trofeo was announced at 550 CV. The 2027 US range announcement identifies a 483-hp V6 entry version and a 582-hp Trofeo. Those dated numbers should not be blended into a single timeless specification.

Folgore uses electric propulsion rather than the petrol car's V6 and eight-speed gearbox. Its appeal depends partly on whether charging fits the journeys for which you are buying an open grand tourer.

05 · Trim differences

Trim differences

A convertible does not automatically need the highest-output engine to deliver the intended experience. Begin with seating, roof operation and ride preferences; only then decide how much performance you want to pay for.

Inspect the fitted options and exact model year. A Trofeo badge on a used car does not establish later power output, and a publicity photograph cannot confirm the upholstery or assistance package on a specific vehicle.

06 · Interior & seating

Interior & seating

The four-seat cabin should be tested with the roof both raised and lowered. Rear passengers may value the view differently from the driver, and their comfort should be part of the purchase rather than an assumption.

Try entry and exit in a realistic parking space. Long coupe-style doors can be inconvenient when another vehicle is close. Check cabin controls and phone integration while stationary, including their readability in bright sunlight.

07 · Efficiency & range

Efficiency & range

Roof-down touring changes the conditions in which the car operates. Compare the official rating for the exact engine and wheel specification, but do not treat a laboratory figure as a promise for every open-air journey.

For Folgore, a comfortable touring itinerary includes charging locations and fallback stops. For the V6, calculate fuel and servicing costs separately. Neither approach should be chosen solely from a range-wide marketing headline.

08 · Safety & equipment

Safety & equipment

Inspect the roof fabric, seals and complete folding cycle on a used example. Ask for evidence of any roof repairs and check for water traces around the cabin and luggage area. These are inspection priorities, not a claim that every GranCabrio has a defect.

Demonstrate parking aids and fitted driver assistance. Visibility and roof position alter the driver's experience, while active assistance still requires normal attention and control.

09 · Strengths

Strengths

The GranCabrio provides an occasion that a fixed-roof coupe cannot reproduce. Its four-seat layout also allows that experience to be shared, provided the occupants have confirmed that the rear accommodation suits them.

The model is most persuasive as a deliberate lifestyle choice. A buyer who regularly plans scenic drives can make better use of it than someone choosing a convertible only for its appearance in photographs.

Cariary perspective
Buy the convertible because you will use the roof. A roof-down luggage test and a rear-passenger test reveal more than another comparison of acceleration claims.
10 · Considerations

Considerations

Roof-related inspection and luggage testing deserve more weight here than on the coupe. Bring the bags you expect to use rather than relying on a volume figure that says little about their shape.

Confirm local service access and insurance before purchase. The expense of maintaining a luxury convertible should be part of the plan even when a used example's initial price looks attractive.

11 · Recommended use

Recommended use

The GranCabrio suits a household that already knows how frequently it will drive with the roof open. Short leisure trips and relaxed touring can justify the format without needing to exploit its maximum performance.

If most journeys are roof-up commuting with substantial luggage, compare GranTurismo directly. The coupe may serve the same design preference with fewer roof-related compromises.

12 · Rivals & related

Rivals & related

The Bentley Continental GTC is a relevant luxury-convertible comparison, with substantial differences in pricing and powertrain by year. A BMW 8 Series Convertible, where available, offers another four-seat approach.

A Porsche 911 Cabriolet is more sports-car-focused. Maserati MCPURA Cielo is a two-seater with a very different layout; it is not a direct substitute for carrying rear passengers.

13 · FAQ

FAQ

Does GranCabrio have four seats? Yes, but test rear comfort before planning long trips.

Is its roof metal? The current GranCabrio uses a fabric soft top.

Are the pictures of Folgore? No; these are earlier Trofeo examples.

Does a 2024 Trofeo gain the 2027 rating automatically? No. The newer specification must not be applied retrospectively.

What makes the Maserati GranCabrio different?

Buy the convertible because you will use the roof. A roof-down luggage test and a rear-passenger test reveal more than another comparison of acceleration claims.

Who should consider it?

Open-air touring rather than maximum luggage capacity
