Why Has the AMG GT43 Been a Popular Choice?
The reason is simple. It’s a flashy yet highly capable sports sedan.
Firmly establishing itself as a competitor to the Porsche Panamera, the AMG GT 43 is a model worth exploring.
1. A Design Anyone Would Choose
The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the GT 43 is its perfect coupe-like silhouette and rear design.

✅ A Rear Design You Can’t Take Your Eyes Off
- The slim and sleek taillights amplify the signature Mercedes-Benz aesthetic.
- A wide and stable rear bumper enhances the sporty feel.
- Most importantly, the automatic spoiler deploying while driving is a truly captivating sight.

✅ Front Design: The Bold Presence of AMG
- The Panamericana grille solidifies AMG’s distinct identity.
- The long hood and sharp headlights emphasize the GT 43’s aggressive character.
“Looking at this car just makes me want to drive fast. This is AMG at its finest.”
2. Performance & Driving Feel
The GT 43 features a 3.0L inline-six turbo engine combined with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

✅ Quick Specs Overview
- Max Power: 367 HP (+22 HP boost from mild-hybrid)
- Max Torque: 500 Nm
- 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): ~4.9 seconds
- Drivetrain: 4MATIC+ (full-time AWD)
- Transmission: AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed automatic
The GT 43 was built with AMG’s heart, ensuring it doesn’t fall behind the Panamera in terms of driving performance. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system provides exceptional grip during acceleration, and in Sport Mode, the handling becomes even more responsive.
3. The 48V Mild Hybrid System & Air Conditioning Issue?
Many GT 43 owners report that during hot summer days, the air conditioning feels weak or sometimes stops working at low speeds.
This isn’t due to a malfunction but rather a consequence of the powertrain system itself.

❌ Why is the Air Conditioning Weak?
- The 48V mild-hybrid system frequently turns off the engine at low speeds to improve fuel efficiency.
- When the engine is off, the traditional engine-driven A/C compressor stops working, which can weaken cooling performance.
- Additionally, the 48V system has limited power supply, meaning its electric A/C compressor isn’t as strong as the 400V systems found in EVs.
✅ Solutions?
- Disable Auto Start-Stop to keep the engine running, maintaining stable A/C performance.
- Apply ceramic IR window tint to reduce cabin heat and compensate for weaker cooling.
- Check for software updates at a service center, as some updates may improve A/C performance.
(But it’s not exactly way to fix A/C system)
4. Luxurious Interior Dashboard
Any Mercedes-Benz owner would agree—when it comes to luxurious interior design, no other German automaker does it quite like Mercedes-Benz.
However, one downside is that early-production GT 43 models had the gear shifter positioned at the center console, making gear changes more convenient.

Unfortunately, it has now been replaced with a column-mounted shifter, just like other Mercedes models. Personally, I’m not a fan of this change.

Since the GT class is meant to be distinct from regular sedans, it would have been better to maintain that unique identity. However, it seems cost considerations played a role in the switch back to a column shifter.
That being said, aside from this drawback, the new steering wheel design and the wider range of seat color options are welcome updates. Overall, the changes seem to be moving in a positive direction.
4. Why Choose the AMG GT 43?
The GT 43 balances design, performance, and practicality, making it an excellent choice for those who want a sporty sedan. However, the mild-hybrid system’s air conditioning performance can be a drawback.
“If design and AMG emotion are your top priorities, the GT 43 is the ultimate choice!”
