01 · Core summary

Core summary

A boxy, family-focused electric SUV with dual-motor all-wheel drive and an optional third row in some markets.

The EQB 300 4MATIC is the all-wheel-drive middle member of Mercedes-Benz's boxy X243 electric SUV family. Its strongest distinction from the EQA is packaging: an upright roof and flexible cabin, with an optional third seating row in some versions. That third row is an occasional-use arrangement rather than a promise of adult comfort. The 300's two-motor system is rated at 168 kW and, in Mercedes-Benz's updated European 2024 specification, 390 Nm. Do not confuse it with the 215 kW EQB 350 or the single-motor EQB 250+.

Cariary's view: the EQB 300 rewards buyers who need a compact-footprint family EV more than buyers chasing the longest range. Verify the actual seating layout, charging equipment, wheel size and market specification before deciding whether its space advantage outweighs its energy use.

02 · History & generations

History & generations

Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQB in 2021 as an electric relative of the GLB. The X243 name covers several drivetrain variants, including 250, 300 4MATIC and 350 4MATIC, not a single unchanging specification. The 300 supplies all-wheel drive without the 350's higher output. The 2024 European update revised styling, equipment and efficiency details while retaining the familiar body concept.

An early car and a facelifted example need different brochure references. A registration year can lag build date. Decode the VIN and check the precise model year before transferring a range, screen or assistance-system claim from one car to another.

03 · Body, platform & design

Body, platform & design

The EQB's nearly square roof and relatively upright rear make it a different proposition from a coupe-shaped electric SUV. The proportions favor headroom and luggage practicality; the aerodynamic penalty is part of the range conversation. The facelift brought a revised black-panel front treatment. AMG Line changes bumpers, wheels and appearance, not the 300 drivetrain rating.

Look at the actual fitted tire size and sidewall. Larger wheels can change ride comfort, replacement cost and energy use. Inspect the rear opening with the family's regular luggage or stroller rather than relying on an isolated cargo-volume number.

04 · Engine & drivetrain

Engine & drivetrain

The EQB 300 4MATIC uses an electric drive unit at each axle. Mercedes-Benz's 2021 launch material gives 168 kW; its October 2023 updated European table again gives 168 kW and lists 390 Nm. These numbers do not describe an EQB 350. Electric all-wheel drive can distribute propulsion between axles, but winter traction still depends heavily on suitable tires.

On a used example, observe launch and regenerative braking behavior, dashboard warnings, charging-port condition and any driveline noises. Request battery-health and software records where available, then have an EV-competent specialist inspect rather than assuming a quiet powertrain has no maintenance exposure.

05 · Trim differences

Trim differences

For the updated European range, Mercedes-Benz listed Progressive as standard with Electric Art and AMG Line alternatives, plus Advanced, Advanced Plus and Premium equipment bundles. These names and inclusions can vary by country and year. A screen shown in a promotional photo or another EQB's listing does not establish what this car has.

Check the VIN build sheet for the cameras, driver-assistance functions, lighting, heated seats, sound system and charging equipment important to the buyer. Demonstrate subscription-linked digital extras in the actual vehicle and establish whether any entitlement will transfer to a subsequent owner.

06 · Interior & seating

Interior & seating

The squared-off shell permits a practical second row and, in certain versions and markets, two additional rear seats. Mercedes-Benz describes the rearmost row as suitable for people up to 1.65 m. It is not a substitute for trying child seats, checking access and measuring luggage space with every seat in the intended position. A five-seat car should not be advertised as a seven-seat car merely because the model line offered the option.

Try every seat adjustment and climate control, connect a phone, inspect screen responsiveness and test the rear doors with actual passengers. The facelift introduced a different steering-wheel control design and updated MBUX options; usability depends on the individual car's fitted equipment.

07 · Efficiency & range

Efficiency & range

For the updated European EQB 300 4MATIC, Mercedes-Benz quotes 17.2–19.2 kWh/100 km and 396–447 km under WLTP, depending on configuration. That is a laboratory comparison range, not a guaranteed highway result. Speed, winter heating, tire selection, load, elevation and battery conditioning can reduce the distance between charges. Do not present the upper bound as a universal range for every 2021–present EQB 300.

Plan a representative long journey with realistic charging stops. Confirm the car's AC and DC charging specification, charging history where available, the cables included in the sale and local charger reliability. A household without convenient regular charging should compare actual time and cost with alternatives before committing.

08 · Safety & equipment

Safety & equipment

The EQB's family purpose makes restraint fit and visibility central. Verify the exact car's airbags, child-seat mounting positions, camera coverage, emergency braking and active assistance by VIN, rather than assuming a package name means all functions are present. Driver aids remain aids, with performance limits in rain, snow, poor lane markings and glare.

Check tire size and load rating, brake condition and collision repair around the windscreen, bumpers and sensors. Query open recalls and service campaigns by VIN through Mercedes-Benz or the local authority, and confirm that any post-repair sensor calibration was documented.

09 · Strengths

Strengths

The EQB 300 combines a genuinely useful upright body with the predictable response of electric all-wheel drive. It can be easier to fit passengers and luggage into than sleeker alternatives of similar outside dimensions. The 300 also avoids paying specifically for the 350's extra output when the household prioritizes everyday family use.

Its strongest examples have documented software and service history, tires suited to the climate and an equipment list that genuinely matches the owner. An optional third row adds flexibility when occasional extra passengers matter, provided its limitations are understood.

Cariary perspective
The EQB 300 4MATIC is a space-first electric family SUV. Its optional third row needs a real passenger-fit check, while home charging and journey planning matter more than the appeal of a seven-seat label alone.
10 · Considerations

Considerations

The boxier shape and all-wheel-drive configuration can make energy use less favorable than a more efficient single-motor electric crossover. A third row consumes luggage space when raised, while its access and size limit usefulness for larger passengers. Replacement tires and premium-vehicle repairs need a realistic budget.

Charging convenience is not a footnote: a driver relying entirely on public fast charging may have a very different ownership experience from one with reliable home charging. Inspect the individual battery, software, suspension, electronics and accident history before treating a low asking price as a bargain.

11 · Recommended use

Recommended use

Choose the EQB 300 if a family wants electric propulsion, all-wheel-drive traction and a compact SUV with a useful roofline, and can charge regularly. Test the child-seat arrangement, real luggage load and an ordinary weekly route. A third row should be considered an occasional bonus, not the sole reason for purchase.

Choose something else if long high-speed trips dominate, charging access is uncertain, or seven adults need to travel together. A larger three-row SUV or a more efficient two-row EV can be a better fit, depending on the actual passengers and journey.

12 · Rivals & related

Rivals & related

The EQB 250+ trades all-wheel drive for a different efficiency/range proposition, while the EQB 350 4MATIC buys more performance without making the cabin larger. Compare same-year, same-market vehicles because the facelift and battery/charging combinations complicate headline figures. The Mercedes-Benz EQA is smaller and less focused on a third-row option.

Outside the range, compare family-oriented electric crossovers on child-seat access, charging curve, cabin flexibility, warranty and tire costs—not just a claimed range number. A test with the household's real luggage is more valuable than a brochure photograph.
