Genesis GV60 MAGMA – Can It Heat Up the World?

Genesis has finally opened a new chapter in the high-performance EV segment.
The name itself makes everything clear: Magma.
Just like the well-established German powerhouses —
Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, and Audi RS — Genesis is now stepping into the same arena with its own performance brand.
And leading this bold start is the GV60 Magma.
Reborn to be Different.

GV60 Magma has visibly different proportions compared to the standard GV60.
- Width: +5 cm
(Made possible by extending the wheel arch garnish by 2.5 cm) - Height: −2 cm
- Overall length: +9 cm
through extended front and rear bumpers
Wider, lower, and longer —
the fundamental proportions required for a true high-performance machine.

It also features a front splitter, something rarely used on mass-production EVs.
Braking capability has been significantly enhanced as well:

- Brake disc diameter: about 400 mm
- 4-piston monoblock calipers
Tire dimensions are on par with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
Interestingly, the early concept model featured an additional rear-roof splitter,

but this has been removed on the production version
(perhaps due to safety concerns such as rollover behavior?).
Design that speaks confidence.

The bold orange color tells everything.
It’s a risky choice in automotive design,
but Genesis executed it beautifully.
In the end, automotive design comes down to curves.
GV60 Magma uses them masterfully —
a strong hint of confidence for future Magma models.

At the rear, three cameras serve separate purposes:
dashcam, around-view monitoring, and digital rear-view mirror.
Aerodynamics and technology go hand in hand.

A slim light strip integrated into the spoiler is another neat touch.
GV60 MAGMA Interior

- Suede-trimmed, integrated-headrest racing seats
- But still equipped with power adjustment, heating, and ventilation
It delivers the racing atmosphere
without sacrificing the comfort Genesis is known for.

There are two key buttons on the steering wheel:
Magma Mode (drive mode selection) and Boost Mode.
Seat and door stitching also fully represent the Magma character.
Despite being an EV, the car includes front and rear external speakers:
- Front speaker under the frunk
- Rear speaker under the trunk
These deliver sampled V6/V8-style sports car sounds
to assert its performance identity loud and clear — inside and out.
GV60 MAGMA Performance and Boost Mode

- Dual-motor AWD
- Around 650 horsepower
(similar to Ioniq 5 N / Ioniq 6 N) - 0-100 km/h in the 3-second range
- Top speed: about 260 km/h
Now, here comes the highlight:

Ioniq 5 N and 6 N have their NGS mode with
10 seconds of max power delivery.
GV60 Magma takes it one step further —
15 seconds of full boost.
By simply pressing the button,
you can squeeze out an extra burst anytime you want.
It is said to allow repeated usage,
though the cooldown time and number of attempts have not been disclosed.
Of course, this sacrifices efficiency and battery temperature management.
But this car wasn’t built for efficiency.
It was built for emotion and performance.
GV60 MAGMA Competitors
Estimated pricing for the GV60 Magma is around $90,000 USD.
At this level, its rivals could range from signature performance models of each brand
to even entry-level supercars.
So it’s honestly difficult to pinpoint a single, clear position for this car.
Therefore, if we narrow the focus down to similar-sized high-performance EVs,
the following models make the most sense as comparisons:

- Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
- US $66,200
- 650HP

- Cadillac Lyriq-V
- US $80,090
- 615HP

- Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV
- US $110,750
- 677HP

- Audi RS e-tron GT
- US $167,000
- 912HP (with Launch Control engaged)
Among these, the Cadillac Lyriq-V is the most recent arrival,
and in my opinion, the closest rival in terms of market approach and product direction.
Genesis is Ready to take the center of High-performance EV

Through this car alone,
Genesis has clearly shown the identity it will carry forward
with the Magma lineup.
I’m genuinely excited to see what comes next.
Personally, I hope to see Magma versions of
the GV70 or G70 before the larger G80 or GV80,
since they would better express the brand’s sporty direction.
