5 TRIMSABOUT THE BMW 7 SERIES
The BMW 745e was the plug-in hybrid answer for the G11-generation 7 Series, combining a turbocharged inline-six with electric assistance for a system output of roughly 394 hp. It could complete shorter journeys on electric power while retaining the quiet, long-distance ability expected from a flagship sedan. Cariary finds the idea more convincing here than in many smaller plug-in hybrids: the 7 Series is already heavy and complex, so using electrification to make low-speed driving smoother fits the car’s luxury mission. The trade-offs are equally important. Battery packaging, real electric range, charging access, and long-term system complexity all matter on a used example. The 745e name did not simply continue unchanged through 2025; it belongs primarily to the later G11 period and was succeeded by newer plug-in hybrid variants such as the 750e in the G70 generation. Buyers should verify year-specific battery and charging specifications.
