2 TRIMSABOUT THE BMW M4
The 444-hp BMW M4 Competition on this page belongs to the F82 generation, not the newer G82 model. It took the original turbocharged M4 Coupe and added more power, revised suspension tuning, and a more focused factory specification while retaining rear-wheel drive. A manual transmission remained available in some markets, although the dual-clutch gearbox became the common performance choice. Cariary views the F82 Competition as a car with two personalities. It can cover normal journeys with four seats and a usable trunk, but its torque and chassis demand more respect than the elegant coupe shape suggests. The Competition badge adds desirability, yet it does not automatically make the car better for daily use; the standard M4 can be more forgiving. Buyers comparing used examples should separate the F82 Competition from the later G82 M4 Competition, which is more powerful, technologically newer, and available with a very different drivetrain configuration.
