ABOUT THE BMW M550I

BMW M550I at a glance

The BMW M550i was the car for buyers who wanted V8 power without committing to the full M5 experience. In its later G30 form, the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 produced around 530 hp in some markets, paired with an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. That made it astonishingly fast, but the M550i’s real strength was how little effort it demanded. It retained more ride comfort, a quieter appearance, and a less intense personality than the F90 M5. Cariary sees this as the mature choice in the old 5 Series range: not the best option for a racetrack, but possibly the better car for long journeys and daily ownership. The weakness is that V8 complexity and running costs remain even without the full M badge. Production ended with the G30 generation, so this profile should not be read as a current 2025 model.
