12 TRIMSABOUT THE GMC YUKON
The GMC Yukon is a full-size, body-on-frame SUV intended for buyers who need substantial passenger space, towing capability and long-distance comfort. Its powertrain range includes 5.3- and 6.2-liter gasoline V8s plus a 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six, all paired with a ten-speed automatic. Output spans 305 to 420 hp, while rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive is available. The diesel is the efficiency leader at up to roughly 23 MPG combined, whereas V8 versions typically return 16 to 17 MPG combined. The Yukon’s independent rear suspension improves third-row and cargo packaging compared with older generations, and the extended Yukon XL adds even more luggage room. Its size, purchase price and fuel costs are significant, so it is excessive for buyers who rarely use all three rows or tow. For large families and trailer owners, however, it offers a level of space and capability that midsize crossovers such as the Acadia cannot match.
