The Kia Niro is an electrified compact crossover offered in hybrid, plug-in-hybrid and battery-electric forms. The regular hybrid makes 139 hp, the plug-in hybrid increases output to about 180 hp, and the Niro EV uses a 201-hp front motor. Every version is front-wheel drive. Cariary sees the standard hybrid as the easiest choice for drivers who cannot charge at home, while the plug-in hybrid rewards short daily trips with regular charging. The EV is smoother and quicker, but it competes against newer electric platforms with faster charging. Buyers should choose the powertrain first, since the three versions deliver very different ownership experiences despite sharing one body.
