The W213 Mercedes-AMG E 53 4MATIC+ introduced an electrified 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six to the performance E-Class range. With about 435 hp in common global specifications, plus brief electric assistance, it combines strong acceleration with a smoother and more refined character than the V8 E 63. A nine-speed transmission and variable all-wheel drive make its performance easy to use in daily conditions. Cariary sees the E 53 as the bridge between a luxury E-Class and a full super-sedan: quick enough to feel special, yet better suited to long-distance driving and routine commuting than the E 63. It is important to distinguish this W213 model from the newer plug-in-hybrid E 53, which has a different powertrain and far greater combined output. For used buyers, options, air-suspension condition and service history matter as much as the headline horsepower.
