The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE replaces the previous V8 formula with a 671-hp plug-in-hybrid system. A handcrafted turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder works with a rear-mounted electric motor, AMG 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and a nine-speed MCT transmission. The claimed 3.4-second 0–60 mph time is exceptional for a compact SUV, and the electric motor provides immediate response rather than serving only as an efficiency aid. The trade-offs are complexity, weight and a very different soundtrack from older AMG models. This GLC is best viewed as a technology-led performance flagship, combining everyday SUV packaging with acceleration and chassis systems developed around electrification.
