ABOUT THE MERCEDES-AMG GT63S

Mercedes-AMG GT63S at a glance

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupe pushes the X290 platform beyond fast executive-car territory. Its hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces around 630 hp in early U.S.-market specification, with a nine-speed transmission and variable all-wheel drive turning that output into remarkable acceleration. The S is not simply a badge upgrade: chassis tuning, performance equipment and additional power make it the more serious choice over the standard GT 63. Cariary sees it as a car for someone who wants one machine to cover business travel, family use and supercar-level speed. That breadth is impressive, but the ownership costs are equally broad. Tires, carbon-ceramic brakes where fitted, suspension systems and complex electronics demand careful inspection. Buyers should also separate the conventional GT 63 S from later E Performance plug-in-hybrid versions, which deliver far greater combined output through a different technical formula.
