3 TRIMSABOUT THE MERCEDES-BENZ CLS
The Mercedes-Benz CLS 300 d is the efficiency-focused diesel version of the C257 CLS. Later examples use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel producing roughly 265 hp with mild-hybrid support in some specifications, paired with a nine-speed automatic. It combines strong motorway torque and useful fuel economy with the low, flowing shape that defines the CLS. Cariary sees the 300 d as a long-distance specialist: it makes more sense for drivers covering substantial mileage than for short urban trips where a diesel may never show its advantage. The sloping roof and narrower rear opening trade practicality for style, and the E-Class remains the more rational sedan. Production of the C257 ended in 2023, so buyers should verify model year, emissions equipment and market specification. A complete service history is particularly important for diesel after-treatment systems and complex modern electronics.
