ABOUT THE MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS

Mercedes-Benz G-Class at a glance

The Mercedes-Benz G 400 d is the six-cylinder diesel version of the modern W463A G-Class in many global markets. Its 3.0-liter inline-six produces roughly 330 hp and substantial torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and permanent all-wheel drive. It cannot match the G 63’s soundtrack or acceleration, but it may be the more coherent vehicle for long-distance driving and actual utility. Cariary sees the G 400 d as the rational G-Class: the same iconic body, commanding position and serious off-road hardware with better range and less theatrical fuel consumption. Diesel emissions equipment and market restrictions make usage pattern important, so repeated short trips are not ideal. Used buyers should verify service history, AdBlue and particulate-filter condition, differential-lock operation and whether modifications have compromised the original engineering.
