1 TRIMABOUT THE MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV combines a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with front and rear electric motors, giving it standard all-wheel drive and 248 hp of total system output. Its defining advantage is not outright speed but flexibility: short daily trips can be completed on electric power, while the gasoline engine removes the range anxiety of a battery-only vehicle. The twin-motor layout also gives Mitsubishi more direct control over front-to-rear torque than a conventional mechanical system. Like the gasoline Outlander, it offers a small third row, although cargo and passenger compromises remain when all seats are in use. Charging at home is essential if owners want to realize the PHEV’s efficiency advantage; without regular charging, buyers carry extra battery weight without receiving the full benefit. Cariary sees the Outlander PHEV as one of the more mature bridge vehicles for families not ready to commit fully to an EV but willing to build charging into their routine.
