The fifth-generation Toyota Prius sharpens the familiar hybrid formula with a lower roofline, stronger power output and a more deliberate fastback design. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions retain excellent fuel economy while offering acceleration that no longer feels secondary to efficiency. The trade-off is a tighter rear-seat and cargo shape than the more upright previous generation. For many buyers it remains the benchmark dedicated hybrid, especially when home charging makes a plug-in model unnecessary.
