Greater Paris Plans Autonomous Transport Pilot From 2028
The proposed experiment raises a practical question: can autonomous vehicles make the journey to public transport easier? Approval and operating details still matter.

AT A GLANCE
- Greater Paris, Bolt and Stellantis propose a pilot starting in 2028.
- The first phase would cover up to five municipalities.
- Routes and approvals still have to be secured.
Autonomous transport could become a link to the train rather than a replacement for it. That is the practical question behind a Greater Paris pilot announced by Métropole du Grand Paris, Bolt and Stellantis on October 23, 2026.
A transport experiment with conditions
The partners have submitted their Living Lab project to the European Commission’s ADACities initiative. They plan initial operations in north-west Greater Paris from 2028, testing connections to existing transport and journeys underserved at off-peak hours.
Bolt would lead service integration and deployment planning; Stellantis would supply vehicles using its L4-Ready Platforms. Pony.ai is identified as a potential technology provider. It is not presented as a finalized supplier appointment.
Do not merge the announcements
Separately, Wayve announced a French autonomous-vehicle collaboration with Stellantis and NVIDIA on the same day. That initiative combines the Wayve AI Driver with Stellantis platforms and NVIDIA hardware and safety software. The overlapping partners do not establish Wayve as the driving-system provider for the Bolt pilot.
The dates are ambitions
Commercial operation by 2030 remains an ambition subject to approvals. The initial deployment would undergo independent evaluation. The announcement does not confirm ADACities selection, fares or a final route map.
